Litter Pick This Sunday - 10am by the Art Pavilion

Welcome to those of you who signed up to be a Friend of Mile End Park at last weekend's Urban Makers Fair in the Ecology Pavilion. Everyone registering was entered into a [virtual] draw to win a £25 voucher to spend at The Pizza Room. Congratulations to our winner Martin Church and thanks to The Pizza Room for donating the prize.

This Sunday is our first litter pick in a while and I hope some of you can come for some or all of the time. The event typically lasts two hours. We also use it as an opportunity to "audit" the park and feedback to the park management. Folk are welcome to come for half an hour or so if they prefer. It is a very friendly affair, and afterwards we go to the Coffee Room in Grove Road for a free drink and cakes.

Time 10-12 noon
Location: Meet by the Art Pavilion (behind the Grove Road Texaco garage)
All equipment provided
Wear sturdy footwear and clothes appropriate to the weather. More info: info@fomep.org.uk

Eco Pavilion - Urban Makers Spring Eco Market (Sat-Sun, 21-22nd April, 11-5PM)

Urban Makers East are continuing their run of seasonal makers’ markets at our Ecology Pavilion in Mile End Park. Situated amongst the lakes and reed beds of the park, the Pavilion provides a wonderful setting for some of the area's foremost independent designer-makers.

To celebrate Earth Day (April 22nd) the market is being curated with an ecological agenda. As the 2018 theme is End Plastic Pollution, Urban Makers East will be minimising all single-use plastics and encouraging designers to use biodegradable plastics and recycled packaging.

There will be completely new designers each day, so why not visit the Market twice!. You can expect art, homeware, natural skincare, jewellery, textiles, stationery, knitwear, clothes for hip kids, contemporary miscellanea and more.

For the kids, there will be pond dipping and net sweeping in the park and craft activities in the mini makers craft room.

If you need to restore some energy, visitors can sit, relax and enjoy the view through the floor to ceiling windows whilst enjoying exquisite street food, killer cakes, artisan coffee and Spring cocktails.

There are four workshops running over the weekend.
Saturday: 11.30-1.30pm Make your own soap with MBotanicals
2-4pm Social sketching workshop with Dulcimer Draws

Sunday: 11.30-1.30pm Make a paper Peony with The Paper Flower Garden

Our Annual General Meeting (Wed 11th April, 7.15PM, Eco Pavilion)

This Wednesday is our Annual General Meeting, at 7.15PM in the Ecology Pavilion, Grove Road. The agenda is below. I do hope you can come along. It should take under an hour.

The committee is keen to get more people involved in running the Friends. Nothing too onerous - the committee usually meet for an hour or so about 4 times a year in one of our houses. If you are interested and want to find out more, then please just pop along on Wednesday. We don't bite!

The Mile End Park Management Team will be providing an update on the Park, and there will be a chance to ask them any questions you might have or perhaps you might have some ideas you'd like to put forward?

At the AGM we will have a selection of free refreshments such as nibbles, wine and soft drinks to help the evening go along.

Also, we are delighted to be giving out free copies of the recently published 80-page booklet Beer Barrels and Brewhouses (which explores the brewing heritage of the East End). It is an excellent read.

Attendees will also be entered into a free prize draw to win a £30 voucher valid at  The Greedy Cow in Grove Road. Thanks Reg for donating the voucher.
